A Note from Ben and Program History

Back To Stress Reduction Main

I met Mike and Jen Bougher when I began working with The ALS Association Greater Bay Area Chapter in 2005.

Jen is an incredible person, and Mike’s wife, taking both an amazing and challenging journey with her husband. Mike is an explorer, artist, writer, husband, grandfather, and person who has lived with ALS for over 10 years. And that’s just the beginning of the story…

I was immediately drawn to and inspired by his artwork as well as his way engaging life, helping people, and personal taking responsibility for his own happiness. (Read Thoughts on Life Here.)

At that time I was using stress reduction techniques and meditation in my own life. I experienced more regular peace than before and even handled difficult situations with less stress.

The benefits that meditation gave me got me thinking about the ALS community: people with the disease, their caregivers, their loved ones and friends, as well their healthcare providers.

How can they access and use these beneficial stress reduction and meditation techniques? I asked Mike.

We discussed, planned, received some input from the outside, and created the first, online Stress Reduction and Meditation Program for All People Living with ALS.

Our thanks to The ALS Association for its support as well as the national recognition the Chapter has received for its efforts to help all people with ALS.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Gioia
