What is Mind Based Stress Reduction? What is mindfulness? What is meditation?

  • Mindfulness means being present with whatever you’re feeling / doing / experiencing as it’s happening.

  • Mindfulness is a method of bringing more peace into your life by being present with your moment-to-moment experience.

  • Mind Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a form of secular meditation that uses mindfulness to help you promote inner peace.

  • Meditation is not an escape but a way to be present in this very moment, whether the experience is pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral.

  • Mindfulness techniques help people engage their own experiences, no matter how difficult or intense, with more and more serenity and clarity.

  • By practicing Mind Based Stress Reduction and meditation techniques, one often feels more alive and gains access to powerful inner resources for calm and balance.

  • Meditation is a lifelong tool to help us all live a better, even in the midst of stress, pain and illness.

  • Meditation can help us choose to respond to stress, rather than blindly reacting to it.

“Meditation creates an overall awareness of relaxation and a feeling of well-being. Breathing and heart rate slow down, blood pressure drops, and there is an increase of healing alpha waves from the brain. In other words, meditation can reduce stress, and relax muscles.”

“The brain waves of meditators show why they're healthier. Neuroscientists have found that meditators shift their brain activity to different areas of the cortex—brain waves in the stress-prone right frontal cortex move to the calmer left frontal cortex. In other words, they were calmer and happier than before.”

“Meditation can wipe away the day's stress, giving you a clean slate. You can practice meditation anywhere — at home, on the bus, at work or wherever you are. See how.”
